Full-time, 1-Year & 2-Year Musical Theatre Programmes
NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2012-13
Prospectus
1-Year:
Welcome to the AMTA of London where we prepare you to enter the profession!
We offer fast-paced training with an American 'edge'. Train in New York City mid-year and learn from the best of the West End and Broadway.
Students this year have already sat in on a closed rehearsal of SWEET CHARITY at Theatre Royal Haymarket, auditioned for the Associate Director of Les Miserables (2 of our students have been selected to attend a recall audition for the actual show!!!), auditioned for the Music Director of Spring Awakening and Legally Blonde and the Resident Director of The Wizard of Oz. They recently returned from New York City where they auditioned for two Broadway Directors and Musical Directors and trained daily with Broadway dance teachers. (See video footage here)
Our school is headed by North-American Kenneth Avery-Clark, whose recent West End credits include Sweet Charity,The Producers, The Drowsy Chaperone, Ragtime, The Music Man, and 125th Street. He has assembled some of the top West End actors, choreographers and directors to teach at the academy. In addition, he has teamed up with his American counterparts to take all students to New York for additional training during the one-year programme.
AMTA has amazing connections in musical theatre on both sides of the 'pond' and our students reap the benefits. Imagine sitting in on a closed rehearsal of WICKED in the West End and being able to talk to the actors about how they made it to the West End stage. Or, what if you could meet one of London's leading casting agents and actually sing for them and get feedback? These are experiences our students have already had. We promise that you will learn from people who are actually in the industry now!
If you are looking for a degree or foundation programme this programme is not for you. This is a professional development programme which prepares you for the industry in one year. Only those who we believe will work at the end of training with us for one year will be accepted. This is a fast-paced programme and we demand results. We make no compromises - instead, we run our school with a 'no pain, no gain' attitude and push you (in a positive way) for the results we know you want.
COST
We offer ALL those who are accepted the chance to participate at a realistic fee that is significantly lower than the cost of other leading drama schools in London. Our total fee for training is £10,500 for the year, which includes EVERYTHING - full-time training in London, one week of intensive training in New York, flight to New York and tickets to shows). You will also receive acting, dancing, and singing training daily in our own studios centrally located at Old Street, Central London. You will be taught by CURRENT industry professionals from the West End and Broadway and also have the opportunity to be represented by our OWN agency when you complete the programme. What’s more, you don’t have to put down the whole fee at once. We are one of the only drama schools in London that allows you to pay in monthly instalments! Our aim is to offer EVERYONE the chance to get high quality training regardless of background or financial status.
TRAINING
Our training is heavy on performance. You need to perform to gain confidence and to put into action the things you learn in the studio. Throughout the year you will participate in several musical theatre productions. You will have private voice sessions weekly and dancing/acting classes daily. You will attend West End shows (included in your fee) and meet the actors for 'Inside the Actors Studio' sessions.
YOUR PROGRAMME WILL INCLUDE:

INTRODUCTION TO AGENTS - You will be seen by (and work with) agents, casting agents, musical directors and directors throughout the year and not just in an end of year showcase. This takes the pressure off that nail-biting day at the end or your course where you hope to be discovered. Instead, we will help you to meet the right people when the right time comes. Agents and directors will always be present at all our shows.
*Apart from the cabaret performances all our shows are scripted
EXPECTATIONS
Principal Kenneth Avery-Clark (recently appeared in the West End production of Sweet Charity) will connect you with an amazing line-up of tutors and guests who are 100% committed to get you where you want to go. We expect the same level of commitment from all of our students. Lateness is not tolerated, project deadlines are to be adhered to and full dedication to the programme and tutors is a must. We accept people based on talent AND their desire to succeed. This is a highly competitive industry and part of our job is to get you ready for it both technically and psychologically. We take a more American approach to training (no pain-no gain) in order to give you the best shot possible when you leave us.
